Perry had to be carried off on a stretcher during the first half of the 3-2 derby victory against the Hammers and scans and surgery showed no lasting damage, but the injury required a clean-up operation which will keep the Spurs defender out of action until next month.

Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle said: "It was a very deep cut, a puncture, but the good news is that there is no damage to the knee.

"Chris has had it cleaned out, he'll have the stitches out in about 10 days and we'll know after that when he can resume training. Hopefully he'll be out for only three weeks."
