Martin Jol said: "Berbatov could play for any team in Europe because he's a top-class player. Just look at his international record - I don't think anyone can better his goalscoring record for Bulgaria. (34 goals in 54 international appearances)"

"He knows how much I wanted him as a player and he wants to do well for me and the club, and that's great."

Chris Hughton said: "Dimitar is a quality, classy footballer. Where his qualities are is the way he can manoeuvre the ball and his feel for it, plus his runs. He is somebody that does it at his own pace, he is not lightening quick, but when he runs with the ball he has got the ability to go past people. You see the times when he runs close to the touchline, he has such good awareness of the players around him that he is able to keep hold of it

"I think where we are fortunate with Berba is that we've got him at a good age, although it does take time to adapt to English football because it is a different game. He is not a young, raw player. He is one who has been around for a while with a lot of experience from playing in a tough league for a good number of seasons."

"The quality has always been there though, I remember his first few training sessions and you do get a feel for a player when he arrives and you see him first hand for the first time. My first thoughts were 'he is certainly a good footballer, now is a going to show that week to week?' He has got better and better and stronger and stronger as the season has gone on in that respect."

"Perhaps if people hadn't taken much notice of him before, they certainly did after the Bolton game where he played up front by himself for a large part of the game."

Jol added: "It's always a worry (for a foreign player coming into the Premiership) if he can do it in the first couple of months but, especially at White Hart Lane (against Bolton), he was immaculate.

Clive Allen said: "It's certainly the best he's given us this season. He's been linking well with Robbie showing what he's capable of.

"He held the ball up superbly well, at times he was isolated with two or three defenders around him but he showed clever movement and unbelievable touch, he was completely in control of the ball and therefore was able to link up when we were short of numbers. I thought it was a sensational performance.

"Mido has also done well when he's been introduced. What you have is healthy competition for places. Everyone is keen to play and score goals and that's exactly how you want it."
