Sadettin Saran, the man responsible for transfer dealings at Fenerbache, has claimed Spurs increased their fee for the Ukrainian striker at a late stage.

"We'd fully agreed terms with Rebrov," said Saran. "He really wanted to come to Fenerbahce.

"We even went to the airport together to return here. Tottenham were going to fax the contract to the airport.

"But Tottenham increased his transfer fee at the last minute, so we put Fenerbahce's interests first, and decided against this transfer.

"Rebrov then returned from the airport."

Rebrov could now attempt to use the new Fifa rules to try and get himself released from his Spurs contract. According to the world soccer governing body regulations, if Rebrov is not involved in 10 percent of Tottenham's first-team fixtures he can make a request to FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber that his contract be cancelled.
