Gareth Bale considering terminating Real Madrid contract & retiring from football

Gareth Bale is considering negotiating with Real Madrid to terminate his contract and may even retire from football entirely after Euro 2020.

Bale has spent the season on loan at Tottenham, eventually scoring 16 goals in 34 appearances after an injury hit start. The campaign has also given him some respite from the negative coverage he has received in the Spanish media over the past few seasons.

Bale has been criticised for a perceived lack of commitment in the past, with his love for golf a particular sticking point. The forward is set to return to Madrid after representing Wales at Euro 2020, but his days at Real could be numbered.

According to ABC, Bale is contemplating calling time on his Los Blancos career by negotiating the termination of his contract. He only has one year left to run on his €15m per season deal and he could settle for half of that. Real may be tempted into this, especially if Zinedine Zidane remains in charge. The Frenchman has a fractious relationship with Bale and may be eager to see the back of him.

Saying that, Real could have done with his talents this season. Other than Karim Benzema no player got close to Bale's goal return of 16 with Vinicius Junior, Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio managing just 17 in 118 combined appearances.

If Bale does depart he could step away from football for good. The forward has made more than enough from the game with ABC even speculating that he will pursue a professional golf career.

Bale stirred the pot about his future after the last game of the Premier League season. Following Spurs' 4-2 win over Leicester he said he knew what he was going to do after the Euros, but did not elaborate as the news would 'cause chaos'.
