Goals abound as Spurs lift trophy

The four strikers on the tour between them scored eight of Tottenham’s nine goals, making competition for places something Martin Jol will need to increasingly contend with.

Robbie Keane 4, Mido 2, Jermain Defoe 1, Fredi Kanoute 1

The pair who between them were given the least number of starts in the second half of last season, contributed most goals in the tournament.

Defoe was naturally the Dutchman’s first choice last season, ahead of Keane who started mostly on the bench and was used on occasion as a late substitute.

"They are good lads who wish each other well and that is a good sign," said Jol.

"I am certain if Jermain had played (in the final) he would have scored and ended up as top scorer instead.

New signing Wayne Routledge was also impressive in the three games he started.

"Pace up front is what we need on the wing," Jol added.
