Gorman defends Hoddle decision

The squad, barring those on international duty, were ordered to report for a four-day training session at the Five Lakes hotel and sports complex near Colchester last week.

"These few days will top the lads up," Gorman told the Sun.

"You can't afford to go seven to eight weeks without doing anything or it would mean starting off very low key with a long, long build-up to the season.

"This way you can get into games that much quicker. Last season, we started off well but finished poorly and we're looking into every aspect of it.

"Our internationals have a month away but they will have trained right through anyway."
