Hughton, who gained 53 caps for Ireland during his palying days, will take up his new role on a part-time basis, while continuing to work alongside Glenn Hoddle at White Hart Lane.

"It is certainly something that won't affect what I do here, which will still be a full-time position," Hughton told the club's official website.

"We have looked at it and realised that it is something that can be worked around.

"On an international week we have something like 12-14 players that are away from the training ground. So these weeks tend to be lesser training weeks because, obviously, we have less players to work with.

"It is something that will be a great honour for me to take and to do. It would also benefit the club in terms of the experience I would get from it and the international players I would see on my travels."
