It's Albion again in the cup

Tottenham coach Martin Jol filled a combative midfielder role as a player at West Bromwich Albion between 1981 and 1984.

Jol's full strength Tottenham side was pushed to its limits before eventually seeing off Mark McGhee's Brighton & Hove Albion in round three. The Seagulls gave an enthusiastic account of themselves in rainy North London on Saturday.

The introduction of Mark Yeates, the Republic of Ireland Under-21, who spent two months on loan at the Withdean last season, inspired the win in only his second first team appearance for the club.

"Yeatesy always looked to create something. Every time he got the ball he went into their box but unfortunately didn't finish it off," said Jol.

Yeates had only been on the pitch for five minutes when Robbie Keane netted the all-important winner seven minutes from the end. The striker's 100th career goal provided a mixture of pleasure and pain for the visiting manager, as it was McGhee who gave Keane his league debut at 16.
