It's tough on the youngsters

What England boss Steve McClaren misses out on not being the type of coach who manages to give rousing team talks or impress his personality upon his players he makes up for with acute preparation, organisation and attention to detail. He's also more concerned with squeezing that little bit extra out of every player he works with at international level.

He obviously sees the opportunity to develop immediately the midfield trio of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Owen Hargreaves rather than Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Jenas and Michael Carrick who are all still youngsters in comparison.
