The 26-year-old international flew into London yesterday, just one day after lifting the Emperor's Cup in his home country as captain of Shimizu S-Pulse, and will join up with Glenn Hoddle's squad tomorrow.
Morioka, who has played under former Spurs stars Ossie Ardiles and Steve Perryman at S-Pulse, financed the trip himself as he looks to secure a move to England following this summer's World Cup finals.
Barring injury, the J-League star looks certain to anchor Japan coach Philippe Troussier's three-man defence during this summer's tournament on home turf and in Korea.
And Morioka, who captained Japan at the 2000 Asian Cup, hopes his experience at White Hart Lane will be good preparation if he achieves his ambition of a move to an English club.
Morioka told the Sports Nippon newspaper: "The biggest aim is to get used to the language and the lifestyle."
