Jol: I can keep strikers happy

Since his England call up last year Defoe has pledged his future to Spurs, amid rumours that Chelsea are preparing a bid. Meanwhile, the player is in the middle of negotiations to improve his salary 13 months after agreeing a five year contract.

Spurs coach Martin Jol is confident talks with Defoe’s agent Sky Andrews, who also represents former Tottenham captain Sol Campbell, can prevent the striker becoming unsettled if Jose Mourinho came tapping at the door.

"There's no problem with Jermain. He is enjoying it here and has four years left on his contract so there’s no rush. He has said to us that money is not his main priority in life," said Jol.

Defoe who scored from the penalty spot to earn Spurs a replay at the Hawthorns a fortnight ago allowed Robbie Keane to fire Spurs back into Saturday’s replay at White Hart Lane. The Baggies fans had accused the England striker of diving to earn a spot kick in the last game, so Keane took responsibility in front of the visiting supporters on this occasion.

Mido will be available to face Nottingham Forest on Sunday. He signed too late to be eligible for the fourth round of the competition.

Jol is positive Defoe will stay at Tottenham.
