Full-back Stephen Kelly played his first game of the season in his favoured right back spot last week, after a small handful of games on the left hand side earlier in the campaign.
Jol said: "Paul (Stalteri) had done well so I had not wanted to chop and change earlier. I thought the time was right for Stephen to play against Birmingham because he hadn't played in his position this season. We have not played 60 matches or otherwise Stephen would have played a lot. We went out of the two cups and we only had the Premiership so there was no reason to change."
