The Spurs defender has been testing the injury in training to see if he could overcome the problem and he says that so far all is well.

"It's gone well," he told Spurs.co.uk, "I've managed to do a full session with the lads and the hip's not causing too many problems.

"At the moment it's just a case of going out there, working and doing as much as I can. I think I've a little tear in the hip but I might be able to push on and forget about it.

"I just want to keep training and once I've got that under my belt, I might be able to look at reserve games.

"I'd like to think the worst of it is over, touch wood. I'm out there training and not really feeling it.

"Basically I'm starting from scratch," he added. "I missed pre-season. I've been out doing work with the physios but it's nice to have that work under your belt.

"So I've got a lot of work to do, it is hard work, but I'm prepared for it."
