"We’re just over halfway through the season and we’re in a nice position at the moment, a position where a lot of other clubs would like to be," said Ledley King.

While the Tottenham skipper was sidelined, Anthony Gardner, who was recently rushed back from injury himself to deputise. Gardner said: "We've shown already in the league that we have the motivation and the desire to play in Europe."

"I've had a run in the team which has been good but when the results don't go your way - like at Leicester - you are not happy. They were bad goals to concede, and although we had only ourselves to blame I did not beat myself up about it."

Michael Dawson added: "We've had two disappointing results but last week we went out and played well against Liverpool and I felt we were unfortunate not to get anything.

"Having said that we played well but didn't get a result and that's the most important thing."
