Let off for Boro

After only narrowly avoiding defeat at the Riverside, either Aston Villa or Charlton can move above Boro in the table by this evening.

The home side rescued a point after Edwin Van der Saar was adjudged to have tripped Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in the penalty area at the death. Bolo Zenden converted the spot kick to level the score after Brian McBride had put Fulham nine minutes from time.

"We didn't pass and play football in the first half," said McLaren in response to the boos that echoed around the ground at the end of the first period.

Referee Rob Style's decision to award the home side a late reprieve was agonising for Fulham, whose own fate now still hangs in the balance.
