Luck returns for Kelly

Michael Carrick's weighted pass set up Stephen Kelly which broke the deadlock.

Injury had forced Kelly to pull out of captaining the Republic of Ireland Under-21s for the first time in midweek. He only became involved at the weekend after Noe Pamarot was carried off as early as the 13th minute with what turned out to be quite a bad knee injury.

Reto Ziegler, who had made his full international debut seven days earlier, developed a hamstring problem, so Davis, whose first season at the club has been seriously jeopardised by a series of injuries, was introduced as his first half substitute replacement.

Simon Davies was left out by boss Martin Jol following the disappointment of Wales results last week, which all but guaranteed they will miss out on World Cup qualification.
