However, the South Africa international defender has said he is determined to work hard and try to battle his way into Glenn Hoddle's first-team plans.
"I'm working very hard at the moment to get into shape to get into the team," he told the London Evening Standard.
"It is very hard, but I am trying my best. Of course, everything is different to South Africa.
"I am trying to adapt to the level of football over here - it is difficult but I am trying very hard.
"My first game was in pre-season against Sporting Lisbon and I think I did well - it was a good experience for me. I think it will take time for me to play in the Premiership but I am looking forward to it."
