Makeshift team responded with grit

Martin Jol rang the changes in his team selection and it paid in dividends for the Dutchman whose Spurs side romped to FA Cup fifth round victory at the second attempt.

Ledley King and Noureddine Naybet, were doubtful ahead of the City Ground replay and both were rested with Noe Pamarot and Anthony Gardner playing at the heart of Tottenham's defence for the first time as a pairing.

"The lads concentrated on trying to beat Forest and we did it.

"Anthony and Noe were brilliant at the back and Pedro came into the midfield and did really well," said Brown.

Michael Brown comfortably manoeuvres as Tottenham dominate possession at the City Ground.

It took Spurs an hour to break the deadlock but they eventually stuck to the task in hand and the travelling supporters were jubilant by the time Mido scored his third for the club after Brown had cracked the woodwork with a long range effort.

Michael Carrick, Erik Edman, Mido and Jermain Defoe all started on the bench. Brown, who earlier provided the flick for Robbie Keane to put Spurs 2-0 ahead, along with Simon Davies and Stephen Kelly were the only out field players to have also started against Fulham at the weekend. Davies questioned the player's strength to rise to the big occasions ahead of the Fulham game, which was vital in terms of maintaining a consistent league campaign.
