Mido setback rocks Spurs

Mido celebrates scoring on his Spurs debut at the beginning of February.

Meanwhile, Mahmoud Gohary, the coach who discovered Mido, has said it’s still too early to judge what impact the striker will have on the Premiership.

"At the moment, I think he has shown only 40 per cent of his potential. The most important time for a footballer is between the ages of 22 and 26 and he is just starting that period.

"He used to be a bit of a rascal but now he is settled and it is important for him to mature. However, if he puts in the work then there is no reason why he cannot become the best player in Africa. In my opinion, he is a first-class striker," said Gohary.

Mido still hasn’t played a full 90 minutes for Spurs. His final appearance for AS Roma before his loan move in January, was at Brescia when he came on at 0-0 with seven minutes remaining, to help his side to a late penalty winner.

Brescia, who held Milan this weekend, are in financial difficulty and in danger of being relegated from Serie A. It was reported recently both Spurs and Arsenal, along with a clutch of Italian sides, are all looking at signing Italian centre-forward Andrea Caracciolo in the summer.

The 23-year-old has scored ten goals this season. He made his debut at the start of 2001 and spent the season before last on loan at Perugia.
