Mixed fortunes amongst the Under 21s

Davenport, a regular in Nigel Worthington’s struggling Championship outfit in recent games, has been overlooked for the European Championship play-off against France, to be contested over two legs - the first at White Hart Lane a week today.

The decision to call on Kieran Richardson from the seniors is thought to have contributed to Davenport’s exclusion and a missed opportunity to build on his limited appearances at the home of the club he joined from Coventry City 15 months ago.

Marney, who joined the Canaries at the start of the current campaign, tore a knee cartilage last weekend, which required surgery and he will be missing for three months.

Michael Dawson, Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone all kept their place in the squad that was announced today. Huddlestone is currently on a month’s loan at Glenn Hoddle’s Wolves, who take on Norwich in the league this Saturday.
