Old Trafford reaction

Spurs managed to rescue a point away from home after going behind to an early goal for the second time in little over a month.

Martin Jol: "We didn't fulfil our potential in the first half, two or three players didn't play too well. But it was 100% better in the second half - we put things straight, there was no space on the flanks, we did things better and could have nicked it in the end.

Skipper Ledley King revealed how Jol’s half-time team talk spurred the players to believe they were worthy of taking something back to White Hart Lane despite giving away the lead inside the opening ten minutes.

King said: "We realise a point is a good result, but we were not going to settle for that until the game was over. We were disappointed with the way we started and played in the first half. You don't want to come to a place like this and give away a goal start, but that is what we did.

"We had to show our spirit - which has been good all season - stick together and make sure we didn't concede again while trying to get back into the game. We felt there was nothing to be scared of and that we could hurt them with the players we have got. So we tried to take the game to them a little bit more.

"We are happy we kept their chances to a minimum and we broke on them a few times - with the players we had on the pitch, we were never cautious. We didn't take the ball into corner flags or anything like that and when it was on to go for it, we did.

Jermaine Jenas, in his seventh start for Spurs, stunned United keeper Edwin Van der Sar with a sweetly struck free-kick that levelled the score.

King added: "I have seen him try a few times! I think he has definitely got the ability, but it is all about doing it on the day and producing it which he has done now."

And Jenas explained the goal was no fluke either. He said: " It was a great feeling for me - I fancied the free-kick straight away because me and Michael Carrick - with Clive (Allen) had been working on it all Thursday.

"Jermain initially wanted it, but we spoke and he knew I'd hit a few good ones in training. The lads put their faith in me and luckily enough I repaid them. When it left my foot I heard Michael behind me - he just said 'yup'.

"My goal aside - which is a delight on a personal level - the whole team were exceptional in terms of the grit and determination. The lads at the back, Daws and Ledley, were brilliant and praise has to be given to everyone.
