Pavlyuchenko in contract talks

Oleg Artemov claims Spurs are attempting to tie Pavlyuchenko down to a new deal less than a year after he looked certain to leave White Hart Lane.

Birmingham came close to landing the forward in January but could not agree a fee with Tottenham.

Pavlyuchenko, who turns 29 a week today, was also linked with a return to Russia but ended up playing a key role in securing Spurs' highest ever Barclays Premier League finish of fourth.

He has been in and out of Harry Redknapp's side this season but has still scored eight goals in 21 appearances and started Tuesday's 3-3 Champions League draw at FC Twente.

"Redknapp wouldn't sell Pavlyuchenko now," Artemov told Russian newspaper Sovetskiy Sport. "The same can be said of the chairman (Daniel) Levy. Three months ago, Levy suggested Roman sign a new contract on improved terms. We are in negotiations and discussing the details."
