Pele salutes excellent Kane

The 21-year-old's Roy of the Rovers rise shows no signs of abating, with the Spurs forward being rewarded for his exceptional form with a first senior international call-up on Thursday.

Kane's 26-goal tally has seen him brought into the England squad for the upcoming matches against Lithuania and Italy, boosting his burgeoning reputation even further.

His performances in the Premier League have caught the eye of many across the world, including arguably the greatest player of all-time.

Pele has been impressed, but warned both club and country against pinning their hopes solely on him or any one player.

"I think he is an excellent player - he could be a good one for the English team," Pele told Press Association Sport.

"What is important is the team work, I think

You cannot win games with individual players

Always it was like that.

"When you have excellent players, sometimes the team doesn't work, you need a good team ethic.

"I am going to give one example - in the Brazil team at the World Cup in England, we had at that time the best players.

"We played the World Cup here but we lost, then in 1970 in Mexico we had an excellent team.

"Our individual players were not the best, but we won the World Cup with the team, not the individual players."

Few are better placed than the three-time World Cup to talk about success, especially when it comes to scoring goals, and the all-time great had some words of wisdom for Kane.

"First of all, he has to take care of his physical condition," Pele said, speaking on behalf of SUBWAY in one of their London restaurants

"A lot of young players forget to look after themselves.

"I used to say, 'God give me the gift to play football, to do something', but you must always be in good shape.

"That is one thing, and tell him never think he can be the best

Always he has something to learn

That is my advice."
