Poyet has stepped up his rehabilitation work and is desperate to return to first-team action - which is good news for Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle who is currently without four other central midfielder players through injury - Jamie Redknapp, Steffen Freund, Darren Anderton and Steve Clemence.

"Things are progressing well and I've been back on the ball and doing some normal football actions," Poyet told the club's official website.

"This is very important because they are different - different movements, different pressures.

"There's no reaction so far and if I keep improving, keep going up and up, I will do more and more, hopefully next week.

"I'm not far away and in about ten days, I hope to train with the group, although that is up to the manager."
