Ramos appointed new Spurs Head Coach

Jaunde Ramos has completed his move to White Hart Lane just a day after tending his resignation from his position as Head Coach of Sevilla. The 53 year old has penned a deal that will keep him at the club until 2011 and his capture, coming so soon after the departure of Martin Jol, represents a sizable coup for Chairman Daniel Levy, and most importantly, the club.

The Spaniard brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, having guided Sevilla to two consecutive UEFA Cup triumphs over the past two years. Ramos will be best known to Spurs fans for masterminding his clubs victory over two legs against Martin Jol's men in last years competition and those two games left a mark on our new Head Coach: "I was hugely impressed with the Spurs fans both home and away when Sevilla played Spurs last season and it will be a privilege to be the coach of this club with the huge support it enjoys both at White Hart Lane and throughout the world", commented Ramos in a statement released on the clubs official site.

"I am looking forward to meeting the players; it is a squad any coach would be excited to work with . I genuinely believe that there is the potential to achieve great things together."

Marcos Alvarez has also joined the clubs coaching staff, having worked under Ramos at Sevilla. The 36-year-old's association with the Andalusia club began in the 2005/06 season, having previously held coaching roles at Elche and Malaga.

In a radical shake up of the clubs backroom staff it has also been confirmed that there has been an approach made for Leeds United Assistant manager Gus Poyet. This deal has yet to be finalised but many fans will be pleased that the turmoil of the last few months can now be forgotten, and everyone at the club can concentrate on the small matter of turning around the clubs fortunes on the field.

Levy was understandably upbeat and enthusiastic after attracting a coach who is widely regarded as being one of the best in Europe. He can also take personal satisfaction, and a small degree of vindication, in the fact that he has managed to sign the man he had highlighted as his number one choice. Sporting Director Damien Comolli, whose relationship, or lack of, with Martin Jol is seen as many to be the catalyst to the Dutchman's sacking, spoke for his Chairman when he hailed the new clubs new appointment: "Juande's arrival is great news for Tottenham Hotspur. He brings with him a wealth of experience, a proven track record and a winning pedigree. Now is the time for us to regroup and look to deliver the results and performances that everyone associated with the Club wants to see.

"By making the appointment at this stage of the season, with our current, talented group of players, we have given ourselves the opportunity to compete well in all four competitions."

Personally I think I speak for all Spurs fans in wanting to get back to concentrating on the football. I'm glad we've got a respected coach in and I'm looking forward to the changes he makes but that does little to take the sour taste from my mouth. The last few months have been embarrassing and whilst I am keen for everyone to move on, lessons must be learnt. Ramost must be given time to bed in, so build his own team. Levy must be patient and realise that if this season is a write off in terms of the goals set in the summer, then it is his own doing. I hope that Ramos is not unfairly treated as a result of mistakes made before he even joined the club.
