Redknapp dismisses newspaper reports

The story quoted Redknapp as saying he is as good as any of the other midfielders named in the party for this weeks get-together in Hertfordshire.

Redknapp was quoted in the report as saying: "I feel I am as good as anyone and should be part of the squad."

"It is something I would never come out with, saying I should be in the England squad or anything like that," Redknapp said on the clubs official website.

"I haven't even thought about it and the way it has been reported is all wrong," he added.

"All I said was that I am enjoying my football and that I am just happy to be playing at the moment and to be fit.

"The question was asked about England and I said 'if, in a couple of months time I am playing well, then who knows?'.

"I just thought it was strange. I don't want people to associate me with it and think 'who does he think he is', because I never said that at all."
