Redknapp sets sights high

The 65-year-old saw a successful spell at Tottenham come to an abrupt end this summer and has been linked with a host of jobs in the four months that followed, with QPR, Southampton and Leicester amongst those mooted as possible destinations.

Redknapp, who is working in an advisory role at former club Bournemouth, said: "I am enjoying it and if something good comes along that interested me, I'd be interested in getting back in again. It would have to be something I'd really want to do. I wouldn't just dive in and take any job for the sake of it."

He added: "I worked with good players the last eight or nine years or so and enjoyed it so that is where I would want to be.

"I've had offers from abroad - quite a few good offers from decent clubs abroad - but they've not really interested me so I've not sort of done anything with any of them.

"Other than that, I've kept a low profile. Saturday afternoons, if I am around, I go and watch Bournemouth play. I get there, watch the game and normally leave five or 10 minutes before the end and watch the 5.15pm kick-off on TV. That's it really.

"I haven't been to a Premier League game. I wouldn't want to start turning up and people saying 'what's he doing here?' I've kept out the way, really."

Few earlier this year would have predicted Redknapp to be out of work as he had been expected to take the England post vacated by Fabio Capello. Roy Hodgson was subsequently appointed after a drawn-out process that saw Redknapp publicly give up on ever managing the Three Lions.

The former Spurs boss has, though, opened the door to other national teams, admitting he would consider jobs with countries other than England.

"I would consider it, if it was the right job, yeah," Redknapp said, speaking at the Tullow Oil Golf Day, which aims to raise more than ?150,000 for CLIC Sargent. "If it was something where you had the chance to be successful and do well with that team, wherever it would be, I would be interested, but who knows? You can never say never. You never know in this game."
