Southampton Reserves 1 - 1 Tottenham Reserves

Christian Ziege came through ninety minutes last night as the reserves were held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton at St.Mary's. Ziege, who is making a comeback from a serious thigh injury was joined in the line up by Frenchman Stephane Dalmat and Japanese international Kazuyuki Toda. Despite the undoubted strength and quality in the side, Spurs fell behind after just twenty seconds when the superbly named Dexter Blackstock won, and scored a debatable penalty. The lead did not last long and on seven minutes Lee Barnard turned home a cross from Mark Hughes. Barnard had a goal ruled out in the second half and Colin Calderwood's side had other chances but failed to grab a second. An injury to substitute Jamie Slabber was the low point on a realtively good night for Spurs, a night which saw the return of one of the first team's key men move a step closer.

Spurs: Hirschfield, Marney, Ziege, Toda, Henry, O'Donoghue, Hughes (Black 87), Dalmat, Barnard, Yeates (Slabber 56, Barnett 70), Jackson. Subs not used: Eyre, Foster
