Ryan Sessegnon Joins Hoffenheim on Season-Long Loan From Tottenham

Tottenham winger Ryan Sessegnon has become the latest young Englishman to head to the Bundesliga on loan, joining TSG Hoffenheim for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old has been a peripheral figure in north London after joining Spurs from Fulham in the summer of 2019, and has made just six Premier League appearances since his arrival.

Instead of watching on from the sidelines, Sessegnon has opted to follow in the foosteps of Jadon Sancho, Reiss Nelson and Ademola Lookman among others, moving to the Bundesliga in the hope of playing more regular football.

“TSG stands for the successful training and development of young players. I hope that the change will give me match experience in one of the best professional leagues in the world and I'm looking forward to the games in European competition," Sessegnon told Hoffenheim's official website.

Sessegnon has been deployed as both a winger and full-back at Spurs, despite impressing in a more advanced position during his breakthrough years with Fulham.

Aged just 17, he scored 15 Championship goals for the Cottagers as he played in all 46 games of the 2017/18 season, helping the club earn promotion back to the Premier League. In that campaign, he played as a marauding and pacy left winger, frightening defenders with his dribbling ability and supreme composure.

The following season saw him net just twice, however, as Fulham were relegated back to the Championship at the first time of asking. But Sessegnon had done enough to impress Tottenham, and they paid around £25m to bring him across the capital on a five-year deal.

Just six Premier League appearances and 12 in all competitions have followed, with Son Heung-min an essential member of Tottenham's starting lineup. Ben Davies has also impressed in Sessegnon's fallback position of left back, and his progression has been stunted as a result.

Now, it's an opportunity for Sessegnon to prove a point in Germany, with this loan deal very much geared around getting ready for a Tottenham breakthrough during 2021/22.
