Second choice Blind lands top job at Ajax

Martin Jol had met Ajax representatives to discuss the position last week when he explained he felt a moral responsibility to Spurs after only four months in charge. In a courteous manner he told the Dutch club it would be difficult for him to walk out on Tottenham at this time.

Jol is close to signing new White Hart Lane contract
Jol did not formally rule out a move to Ajax when he sat down with the president John Jaakke and general manager Arie van Eijden. But Johann Cruyff, who still has huge influence at Ajax, eventually advised them to pursue a different path. Blind, their other choice, was a player at the Amsterdam club for 13 seasons.
