Steed to fill Davids' boots

Time is on Steed Malbranque's side following his transfer deadline day move from Fulham to White Hart Lane.

Spurs could have waited and signed the player on a free transfer next summer, but decided a switch now would provide the attacking French midfielder with a better opportunity of settling in at the club, recovering from his injury troubles and gradually take over the role on the left that Edgar Davids played for most of last season.

Malbranque brings all the attributes (without the medals) that Davids had when he came to Spurs at the start of his two year stint in the Premiership – bags of experience as well as the ability to play wide or through the middle.
