Tanguy Ndombele 'Determined' to Stay at Tottenham Despite Barcelona Interest

Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is said to be determined to fight for his future at the club, despite rumours linking him with a potential move to Barcelona.

The 23-year-old is yet to really set the world alight following his club-record £54m move from Lyon last summer and his unconvincing performances have seen him attract criticism from manager José Mourinho.

That fractured relationship prompted rumours that Ndombele was ready to quit the club this summer but, after considering his future, The Telegraph state that the Frenchman wants to stay at Spurs and prove himself.

Barcelona have been tracking Ndombele and have even been linked with a potential swap deal to try sign him. Ivan Rakitić has been touted as a potential makeweight, with Spurs thought to be 'leading the race' to sign the Croatian.

However, any deal for Rakitić may be separate to Ndombele as it is said that the latter does not want to leave Spurs right now as he fears he would go down as a flop (which he would).

It is accepted that the midfielder's adaptation to life in England has been difficult through no fault of his own. Spurs' turmoil on the pitch obviously hasn't helped, and neither has the change from Mauricio Pochettino to José Mourinho.

Injuries have also taken their toll on Ndombele, who started just 12 Premier League games before football was postponed, so there is an acceptance that plenty of external factors have prevented Ndombele from showing his best.

There's also the small matter of chairman Daniel Levy refusing to sell him which might have the tiniest of impacts on this one. Levy doesn't want to see Ndombele sold for a loss just one year after investing so heavily in him, regardless of what Mourinho may say about the Frenchman.

Mourinho has tried to work with Ndombele, infamously breaching lockdown rules to take the Frenchman for a one-on-one training session, in an attempt to rebuild the relationship between the pair.

It seems as though Ndombele still features in Spurs' plans going forward and, with the coronavirus outbreak's likely impact on the transfer market, all the signs suggest the Frenchman will be staying at Spurs.
