This as alerted clubs all over Europe and the Portugese side are said to have made an enquiry.
"Sporting have made an enquiry and we're now waiting to hear from them again," Sheringham's agent Barry Neville said.
"But we'll wait and see and consider any options. We've not heard anything more from Spurs but we'll probably sit down with them and discuss the future."
