Five players – three from Manchester City and two from Spurs, including Barton and Atouba, were booked by referee Barry Knight after tempers spilled at White Hart Lane in the closing minutes on Saturday.
Barton, who was sent off at half time in the FA Cup replay at White Hart Lane last season, needed eight stitches to an eye wound following a clash of some kind with the Cameroon international who joined Spurs in the summer.
