The Latest on PSG's Pursuit of Tottenham Midfielder Dele Alli

Paris Saint-Germain are set to pull out of negotiations with Tottenham regarding the signing of Dele Alli on a season-long loan.

Dele's future in north London has recently been thrust into doubt after being left out of Jose Mourinho's last two matchday squads off the back of an underwhelming 45-minute display against Everton in Spurs' opening game of the Premier League season.

The addition of former hero Gareth Bale, meanwhile, only weakens Dele's status in the Lilywhites squad, with competition for minutes increasing significantly following the Welshman's arrival.

The Lilywhites were seemingly willing to see Dele depart on a temporary basis for the 2020/21 campaign to aid his rediscovery of the form which established himself as one of Europe's hottest prospects.

French supergiants PSG swiftly emerged as front-runners for the 24-year-old's signature and were said to 'confident' of striking a deal with Spurs following initial talks.

That confidence, however, has waned significantly over the past 48 hours. So much so that The Telegraph understands Les Parisiens are preparing to pull out of negotiations for the uniquely gifted midfielder due to issues regarding finances.

This comes after manager Mourinho dismissed rumours linking Dele with a move away this summer, saying he was 'convinced' the 24-year-old would remain a Tottenham player.

The former MK Dons starlet has been recalled to the first team squad for Thursday's Europa League tie with Macedonian side Shkëndija, and Mourinho will certainly be hoping that his recent admissions - which reportedly left Dele 'angry and confused' - will serve as a motivator for the England international to return to his finest form.

Dele enjoyed a scintillating purple patch following Mourinho's arrival last November after enduring an inconsistent end to Mauricio Pochettino's reign in N17.

However, after contributing to seven goals in the 'Special One's' opening seven Premier League games as Tottenham boss, Dele scored just twice and added a mere one assist in his next 13 league encounters.
