Tottenham apologise for Wayne Gretzky shirt gaffe

Gretzky, who has scored more points than any other player in National Hockey League history, was at White Hart Lane for the Capital One Cup tie against Arsenal and was presented with a shirt bearing his famous number 99, which has been retired across the NHL since he hung up his skates.

But the north London outfit were left red-faced when they spelled the 54-year-old's name as "Gretsky" instead of Gretzky and have since promised to send the four-time Stanley Cup winner a new one.

"Our sincere apologies to @OfficialGretzky for the shirt error

New one on its way!", Spurs tweeted
