Tottenham close in on Fraser Forster free transfer

Tottenham are close to agreeing a deal to bring Fraser Forster to north London, 90min understands.

The goalkeeper's contract with Southampton will expire in June and he will move on after eight years and over 150 appearances in all competitions for the Saints.

Spurs remain on the hunt for a back-up option to Hugo Lloris, having tried out Paolo Gazzaniga, Joe Hart and Pierluigi Gollini in recent years, and 90min understands a move for Forster is now close.

Tottenham had previously held talks with West Brom stopper Sam Johnstone but reneged when it became clear he wanted to go elsewhere. Manchester United remain interested in the England international.

As for Southampton, Forster's impeding departure will free up a goalie spot in their squad. The former Celtic star had shared life between the sticks with Alex McCarthy, while Willy Caballero was also at St. Mary's for the 2021/22 season, though his deal also expires in June.

The Saints admire Charlie Setford, the Ajax teenager who has featured for the Dutch side's Jong team since 2020. He is eligible for both the Netherland and England at international level, most recently playing for the Three Lions' Under-18 team.
