Tottenham confirm Sporting CP game will go ahead

Tottenham have confirmed that their Champions League match with Sporting CP will go ahead after accidentally listing it as postponed on their website.

The Premier League's weekend fixtures were all postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and it has been unclear whether the mid-week European matches involving British clubs will go ahead.

It looked as though Spurs' clash with Sporting wouldn't when fans spotted that it was listed as postponed on the English club's website, two days before it's scheduled to take place.

However, they've now announced that listing was a technical error and that the match in Lisbon will indeed be going ahead.

“Due to a technical error, Tuesday’s match against Sporting CP is displaying as postponed on our website," they tweeted.

“We can confirm this is incorrect – the match is going ahead as planned. We are looking into the issue urgently and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Both teams head into the match with three points to their names after winning their opening matches of the 2022/23 Champions League campaign.

Spurs prevailed over Marseille, winning 2-0. They were under pressure for much of the first half but gained the upper hand after the French side went down to 10 men when Chancel Mbemba was sent off at the start of the second half.

Sporting meanwhile took their chances to beat Frankfurt 3-0 away from home in what was a largely even match - despite what the scoreline suggests.

The English team will be the fresher of the two having not played at the weekend, with Sporting going up against Portimonense on Saturday and winning 4-0.
