Tottenham Defender Kyle Walker-Peters Seals Loan Switch to Southampton

Kyle Walker-Peters has completed a loan move from Tottenham to fellow Premier League side Southampton until the end of the season.

The former England Under-21 international was thought to have courted interest from Crystal Palace but his transfer to the south coast has now been confirmed.

In a statement, Southampton said: "Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce it has completed the loan signing of highly-rated young full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

The 22-year-old, who can play on either side of defence, has joined Saints from Tottenham Hotspur for the remainder of the season, providing additional strength to Ralph Hasenhüttl’s squad for the final months of the campaign.

"Walker-Peters, who is a product of the Spurs academy, has represented England at every level from Under-18s to Under-21s and has made 24 first-team appearances with his club, the most recent of which saw him start away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League last month.

"This is Walker-Peters' first loan spell away from Tottenham, having been kept around the Spurs first team squad since making his debut in 2017. He scored his first goal for the club during that season, but limited opportunities have halted his development."

Kieran Trippier was Tottenham's first choice right back up until his departure for Atletico Madrid back in the summer, with Serge Aurier filling the void to mixed reviews.

He did sign a new five year contract with the north London club in 2018 and started Tottenham's first three Premier League games this season but hasn't featured since the 3-1 Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich.

It is expected Walker-Peters will compete with Cedric Soares for the right back spot, though the Portugal international is currently out for up to three weeks with a knee problem. Yan Valery is still making his way back from a viral infection, so Walker-Peters could be involved in first team action sooner rather than later.

Southampton's form has picked up impressively in recent months following a difficult start, with the Saints currently ninth in the Premier League.
