Tottenham have given Jermain Defoe the chance to obtain his coaching badges with them after announcing his retirement.
The 39-year-old called time on his playing career on Thursday, just two months after he rejoined Sunderland.
At the time of his retirement, Defoe sits ninth on the Premier League's all-time scoring charts and is fondly remembered as one of Tottenham's best-ever strikers. In his 362 appearances for the club between 2004 and 2014, Defoe bagged 143 goals and chipped in with 32 assists for good measure.
The Daily Mail state that Defoe's next plan is to obtain his coaching badges, and Spurs have offered him the chance to return to the club to gain the experience.
Spurs want Defoe working at their training camp in Enfield, with a formal position in the future not ruled out either.
A handful of former players already ply their trade behind the scenes at Spurs. Ryan Mason works under Antonio Conte in the first team, while Ledley King is a club ambassador.
