Tottenham Remain Determined to Push Ahead With Joe Rodon Deal

Tottenham Hotspur are set to continue talks with Swansea City over centre back Joe Rodon, despite the two sides remaining apart in their respective valuations of the Welshman.

Spurs' interest in the 22-year-old first broke towards the end of the international transfer window, but thanks to the extended EFL transfer deadline, the club have until October 16 to get a deal for Rodon over the line.

The initial hope was that a deal for Rodon would be easier to strike and could have been completed in time to register the Wales international in Spurs' Europa League squad, but Spurs' latest offer has fallen well short of Swansea's £20m asking price.

Despite an agreement proving complicated, The Telegraph note that Spurs are prepared to keep trying and are ready to take this deal 'down to the wire' if they need to.

Swansea are prepared to sell for the right price, with the report adding that Championship sides are keen to offload their biggest names in search of financial relief from the top flight, but they do not want to be taken advantage of with low bids.

Leicester City are also thought to be considering a move for Rodon, and Swansea will hope that the Foxes' emergence could spark a bidding war which would bump up the defender's price tag.

A previous report from the Daily Star has noted that Spurs could look to use their advantage of having Welsh stars Gareth Bale and Ben Davies as part of their squad.

Davies played alongside Rodon in both of Wales' international fixtures last week and could be asked to speak with his team-mate over a potential deal, while Bale's influence could well have a huge impact on Rodon's decision.

Talks appear set to continue over the coming days, with José Mourinho still looking to sign a new centre back after failing to land one during the summer.

Talks with Inter over Milan Škriniar broke down and negotiations for Chelsea's Antonio Rüdiger never really got going, leaving Mourinho forced to look to the Championship if he wants a new addition before January.
