Tottenham Unveil New Throwback Third Kit for 2020/21 Season

Tottenham Hotspur have revealed their new third kit for the 2020/21 season, which draws inspiration from some of the famous yellow kits of the past.

Spurs have chopped and changed the colours of their third kits since Nike assumed control of the club's shirts. The 2017/18 season brought us a purple number and 2018/19 saw a switch to light blue, but Spurs will return to their roots by bringing the famous yellow back.

Head-to-toe in yellow, this new third kit takes inspiration from some of the more iconic kits of Spurs' history, such as the shirts worn during the 1980s which brought FA Cup and UEFA Cup glory.

The yellow, which gets progressively darker as it flows down the kit, is complimented with a navy blue trim on the collar and cuffs and is all inspired by Nike's Air Max 95 trainers, which have been popular in the area for years.

The design will also provide inspiration for a new Nike Air Max trainer specific to Spurs, which will be released at a later date as part of a collection of team-inspired shoes.

The central crest, similar to the new England shirt, is yet another throwback to years gone by, with Spurs clearly keen to channel their past successes on their quest to add some long-awaited silverware to the trophy cabinet.

Manager José Mourinho has already been busy this summer, bringing in midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and right-back Matt Doherty from Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.

Midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has also joined permanently following an impressive loan spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer, which will hopefully give Mourinho's squad the boost they need to return to the top four.

Spurs ended last season in sixth, snatching the final Europa League spot away from Wolves, but they must face a gruelling qualification journey which will take them all across Europe if they are to actually reach the competition.
