We Kan make it into Europe

Defoe sealed victory for Spurs in the FA Cup fourth round replay against West Brom with two goals at the start of the second half.

The contest was settled when Fredi Kanoute set up Defoe ten minutes into the second period, following some trickery on the left-hand side from the Mali forward.

"The amount of times he (Kanoute) has done that this season is great - he sets up so many goals for me," said Defoe.

Spurs went in front for the first time in the tie after Michael Carrick rolled a neat free kick into the feet of Defoe whose blast left replacement keeper Tomasz Kuszczak helpless.

"We’ve been practising that for ages on the training pitch but hadn’t tried it before in games. Michael (Carrick) played an inch-perfect ball to me and I just had to connect," added Defoe.

Tottenham deployed all three available strikers from the start. However, it wasn’t before the final stages of the first half until the home side got into the game. Referee Rob Styles awarded Tottenham a penalty following Russell Hoult’s altercation with Stephen Kelly. Robbie Keane sent Kuszczak the wrong way after Hoult, bloodied from the collision with Kelly was forced to withdraw.

Martin Jol’s decision to bring on midfielder Simon Davies for Keane at the interval thankfully saw Spurs revert back to a four-man midfield.

"We decided to go with three up front, which went OK for us. It was difficult to get on the ball in the first half but the second was a lot better," said the match winner.
