Burnley 2 - Tottenham 1

Burnley manager Stan Ternent was left drooling by his side's 2-1 victory. He looked back at the most thrilling cup tie at Turf Moor in over a decade and said: "Spurs are a very good side but we deserved to win.

"They might not have fielded their strongest side but the players they had are all premiership quality.

"I did not have to say a lot to them at half time, I just asked them if they were up for it and they went out and proved that they were."

As Burnley made a tentative start Spurs cashed in and opened the scoring on 17 minutes as Gus Poyet rose unchallenged to head home a corner.

Ternent switched his team almost immediately and the introduction of Glen Little turned the game on its head.

For the remainder of the first half Burnley were in control and at the start of the second half they moved up another gear.

Little was a constant threat and set up both goals which came in four minutes either side of the hour.

First he set Robbie Blake free and his deflected shot gave Kasey Keller no chance.

Minutes later Little's corner found Steve Davis unmarked to head home.

After that Burnley continued to search for goals and Blake was denied by the woodwork.

At the other end Robbie Keane had a hat-trick of chances and left Burnley wondering how he had failed to hit the target.
