Tottenham 1 Arsenal 1

In a week where rumours were circulating about the two teams sharing a ground it will be Arsenal who are the happier to share the points as Spurs really shook the champions.

Spurs looked the favourites to go on and win when Christian Ziege gave them an 11th minute lead but with Seaman making a number of fine saves and Cole twice clearing off the line they had to be content with a draw as Robert Pires equalised from the spot after Kasey Keller had brought Thierry Henry down in the area.

Spurs will wonder how they were not leading at half time after rocking Arsenal back on their heels in the opening 45 minutes.

Just five minutes were on the clock when Seaman was called into action for the first time. Darren Anderton's wicked cross was missed by Teddy Sheringham, giving the England keeper the chance to deflect the ball wide with his left foot.

Four minutes later Spurs felt they should have had a penalty when Ray Parlour bundled into Gus Poyet but the home team got their reward soon after when Ziege opened the scoring.

There seemed little danger when the German placed the ball 30 yards out, but once again Seaman was left exposed as Ziege curled it past him and inside the top corner.

The fact Spurs did not extend their lead was largely down to Cole who headed Dean Richards effort off the line and then hacked away Robbie Keane's goalbound shot.

Then on the stroke of half time Keller suffered a rush of blood to the head as he brought Henry down and Pires made him pay.

Spurs remained on top in the second half but Keane was denied twice by Seaman, first when he stuck a leg out as the Irishman attempted to go round him and then by blocking a point-blank volley as the game ended in a draw.
