Martin Jol: "We did the right thing, they invited us on whereas with being 1-0 up we expected to have to wait for them.

"With the game being at the Lane, I said we had to score a goal and that proved difficult. We played some decent stuff for the first 20 minutes without scoring and then it maybe became a confidence thing because people probably wondered if it would be one of those nights again.

"I was very happy Robbie delivered and did the business for us by scoring the goal.

"After that we could have scored more, but we did give one or two chances away so it became exciting in the end.

"The crowd lifted us again and we were happy to be playing at home. They were great for us and they knew how important it was for us to reach the next stage and play four games against big teams."

Robbie Keane: "We'd only scored three goals (this season before tonight). As a team it was annoying because we wanted to win every game. We kept playing, kept working hard for each other which was important and we got our rewards for it.

"As I said in the week, I knew if I got a good chance I would put it away. There was one in the first half where I thought I could have done better and should have taken a touch because it was a little bit behind me.

"Luckily enough, in the second half I was able to catch one nicely and it hit the back of the net. It's not about me scoring though, it's about getting the result for the team."

"It was important we got a good result, although with a 0-0 we would have still been through, but we wanted to win and get our confidence up.”

Jermaine Jenas: "We knew how important a game it was for us and the vital thing was to get through to the group stage and we've done that.”

"If we could have got an earlier goal I think the game would have been completely different and we could have built a good score.

"Fair play to them, they didn't just sit off and tried to cause us some problems, but Keano nicked a goal for us and a lot of people seemed to settle down and play.”

"I didn't see them scoring. They had a few long range efforts but I was fully confident in Robbo in dealing with that. I thought it was just a matter of time before we were going to score."

"I should have put it away (chance against Liverpool), but I have put it behind me. I think I showed how I stayed positive in my performance."
