Tottenham Trust

The following article was written by Peter Haring - Chairman of the Spurs Trust, and highlights the reasons why YOU should join and support the Trust.

Above everything else, there is one main reason why you should join the Trust:-

Because you are a Spurs supporter.

I could give you lots of examples of why other people have joined. Because they want to know and understand better what’s going on at Spurs. Because they want to meet or talk to other Spurs supporters. Because they want to get involved with Spurs and feel this is the best way to do it.

And these are good reasons for joining. But I hope you'll join for another reason too.

We know that our supporters are second to none. After so many years starved of the success we know we could achieve, we still have levels of support most clubs can only dream of. We all know that other clubs who have had recent success were playing in half-empty grounds not that long ago, and probably will do so again when their stars fade. We have always matched the support of the most successful clubs despite the huge disappointments we’ve suffered for a decade at least. If the positions were reversed, who honestly believes that there is another club in London which would regularly fill its ground and apply for 17,000 tickets for a third round cup tie away at Coventry? This is the kind of support we have sustained throughout probably our least successful period since WW2!

I joined the Trust because, although I didn’t know exactly what I could do, I knew I wanted to try to help to change things for the better. My view was, given the incredible support Spurs has, two things must change.

First, the club needs to acknowledge how important the supporters are. It needs to talk to us like adults, listen to us, respect us, and generally behave as though they understand that our emotional investment in the club, as well as the time and money we spend in supporting the club, is the foundation on which everything else at Spurs is built. The club would literally be nothing without us.

Secondly, I believe that if the club and supporters do work together, we have a much better chance of getting Spurs back to greatness. We support Spurs despite everything the club has done. Imagine what would be possible if we and others could support it BECAUSE of what it does. There is no limit to what Tottenham can achieve if its ambition matches ours.

There are many optimistic signs now, although the frustrations certainly aren’t disappearing.

The style of football is improving and we sincerely hope that results follow soon. The club is starting to listen to us, and you can see from the programme of events that they take us seriously.

But we need you!

If you can afford £10 a year, you can add your voice to ours and for every single supporter who joins the Trust, the harder it is for the club to resist matching our ambition. Just like at a game; no individual’s voice can inspire the team to play its very best, but thousands of us together can.

As JFK would have said had he been born in North London, ask not what the Trust can do for you; ask what you can do for the Trust. Because we believe that the supporters can help make Spurs great again, and have a bit of fun and excitement in the process.

Just by joining, you will help make it happen.

Join because you support Spurs..
