Bitter Sweet: Benteke Deal

Last updated : 17 July 2015 By Hoggg

Benteke's £32.5million release clause has been actived by Liverpool (this is essentially the Sterling money after QPR have their payout).

What concerns me is again that Tottenham are happy to lose ground to Liverpool. Seemingly Liverpool have been unopposed in their pursuit of the Belgian powerhouse, but you have to ask why.

We have all seen what the forward is capable of and no offence intended to Villa, but playing with a struggling side he has still shone.

The fee that Liverpool have agreed is exceptionally high, but if you want to pull a player away from a club unwilling to sell.....

Tottenham are in need of another striker, but it seems that with Adebayor and Soldado there is "no room" for another "big wage" signing until one of the two have left.

It would have been a perfect opportunity for Spurs to have dealt on a cash plus player basis with Villa (especially with Sherwood hot Ade's tracks).

Although it is catastrophic news to hear that Benteke could be at Liverpool this coming season there is a little sweetener in that Sherwood is expected to replace Benteke with Ade.

It is frustrating to see that Tottenham are yet to move in on much needed players to support Kane and give him competition, but I certainly am expecting this to happen soon.

With Stambouli going and the abundance of players already left Tottenham are freeing up a lot of wage space and building up a nice pot for transfer fee's.

Bearing this in mind do not be surprised to see Spurs linked with some big names after Soldado or Ade are sold.

What Spurs need to be very careful of is that the pot of available strikers is dropping down dramatically with Austin set for Newcastle and Benteke set for Liverpool.
