Holtby Transfer - Luck or Masterclass

Last updated : 29 January 2013 By Hog

Whether you like Levy or not the one thing that no one can argue is that he gets a good price for people he's buying or selling.

Whether you like the guy or not you cannot say that he doesn't save the club A LOT of money. But that is not the issue!

The question I ask though is whether Levy had all intentions of having Holtby join Tottenham in January, but knew he must get the player tied to a contract first. Now if this is the case it means that we have landed Germany's U21 captain for a sweet £1.5million. If you look at it properly for Levy to have signed him in January (before a contract was agreed) you would have imagined a £4-5million fee to be involved?

Now as I have been reluctant to give Levy his dues at present (and  I am sure you will agree), but you can't help but enjoy the buying end of Levy's reign?

On the flip side to all this you have to ask whether Levy was lucky to land Holtby and for such a low price, considering that it was widely advertised on how desperate we were for a creative midfielder.

I have said that I believe Holtby to be one for next season, but do not think I do not rate the player. He will need time to settle and I for one will not be putting too much pressure on the player (even if AVB is by adding him to the Norwich squad).

The big point though is that Levy went for the cheap option and bought Lewis in for £1.5million, rather than show his commitment to AVB with a purchase of Willian or Moutinho. All that needs to be said is that Levy BEST pull off a big name signing up front as this is a sign of what I had predicted. I had clearly said that I expected rather than accept Lewis’s arrival in the summer and make a big purchase this January (to show the clubs ambitions), that he would go cheap. At this rate we'll be lucky to land 4th with a squad that has a history of tiring and the depth of our squad is not what it used to be. Worse is that we still need a striker!

Also I would like to thank all the followers for your kind emails and comments following my absence, but as I always say I’m a true football fan and can't keep away!!
