Klinsmann has a new deal

USA's chief Sunil Gulati has broken news that may have some Spur's fans feeling like Christmas won't be coming early.

In an interview he stated:

"We've obviously read some of those things," Interest from Tottenham.

"On a specific level, none of those things were critical to us. The desire to make sure we had a long-term commitment from Jurgen, and he had one from us, was part of it, and market dynamic does dictate some of that.

"So we're not oblivious to the fact that Jurgen over the last two years has had an extraordinary run with the national team and that would bring a lot of interest from the outside.

"Sure, some of that matters, but not specifically the Switzerland or Tottenham issues, but generally a coach that has done very well, that has an international reputation, who speaks multiple languages would be sought after.

"So the desire to have a commitment from him, contractually, for a long period of time, that matters, of course."

Am I disappointed by the news? Actually a little as I would rather him than Hoddle, Jurgen has some proven success.

When it comes down to it though I am looking for something more. I want a manager with proven success at the highest level.

If we are going to go for a young manager, but with proven ability you would go for the likes of Diego Simeone he has won the following accolade already;

Argetine Primera Division 2006 & 2008 with Estudiantes and Riverplate

UEFA Europa League 2012, UEFA Super Cup 2012 and the Copa Del Rey in 2012 (beating Real Madrid 2-1) all with Atletico Madrid.

At the age of 43 and having played at the highest level (he was Argentina's highest capped player) he obviously has great insight into football from both sides of the coin.

Importantly he would likely get the best out of the likes of Erik Lamela, however unfortunately he has only been at Atletico since 2011 and being second in La Liga (on joint points with Barcelona) it is unlikely that he would make the move to Tottenham.
